How the fearsome Hurricane Irma forced prayers to God back in the News

Hurricane Irma has not come without a reason. It sends a clear message to the puffed up, atheistic world leaders and citizens at large-- Do not defy God and do not mess around with nature. Florida Governor Rick Scott rightly said- "People have asked what can we do, the first thing I tell them is pray, pray for everybody in Florida."

It’s been terrible in Florida. Hurricane Irma has its say. President Donald Trump has advised citizens to “just get out of its way” and not worry for possessions. Around 6.4 million people were asked to evacuate or live on their own.

After devastating the Caribbean islands, on its way, the unchallenged Irma has knocked out power to more than 3 million homes and businesses in Florida on Sunday itself threatening millions more as it crept up the state’s west coast. The number of death is increasing as new reports come in.

Not realizing how mother nature works, some political leaders have criticized Donald Trump for his policy on climate change. Is this the time to talk politics? Not at all. It’s the time to collectively pray to the almighty God and learn lessons. What we are seeing today, be it hurricane Irma or the recent Mexico earthquake, is a cumulative effect of years of collective sins and thoughtless acts. Like it or not, this is the irony of the moment. It is high time we learn good things.

Hurricane Irma has not come without a reason. It sends a clear message to the puffed up, atheistic world leaders and citizens at large– do not defy God and do not mess around with nature.

It is only wise to turn to God when things go out of hands. While we do our level best to save lives and cost, taking shelter of God and praying for His mercy is natural for every intelligent person.

Fortunately, this is what America’s top leaders have advised people to do when hurricane Irma is in no mood to listen to anyone on the planet.

“What’s scary is the unbelievable storm surge potentially in my own town, 15 feet of storm surge above ground level. And we are talking about that and something with the keys. People have asked what can we do, the first thing I tell them is pray, pray for everybody in Florida..,” Governor Rick Scott said while talking to Fox News.

President Donald Trump hoped everybody prays for Florida. “My concern right now is people – hopefully everyone has evacuated. I looked at our traffic cameras around the state this morning. People are off the roads. I just hope everybody has evacuated and gotten to safety. So, I hope everybody will pray for us.”

The fury of hurricane Irma reminds of hurricane Andrew and Katrina. The after-effects of such hurricanes remain another challenge for the administrators and for those affected.

Reports say in Florida wealthy Indians have opened up their homes and hotels for fellow citizens. This is a noble and admirable service to those in need. It shows Indians can leave India but India and Indian culture will not leave Indians so easily. Vedic culture is of vasudhaiva kutumbakam– we are all children of one big family, the family of God, Lord Krishna, who has clearly said in Bhagavad Gita that He is the original seed giving father of all living entities.

Keeping this in mind, while we all are worried about human lives and pray for their well-being, let us also pray to the Supreme Lord for the safety of animals, birds and aquatics, who are also children of God and are certainly affected by hurricane Irma.
