While antibiotic resistance is not a new thing nor was it something that wasn’t expected, researchers have now established an apparently unlikely link between antibiotic resistance and corruption around the world. It is a finding that will be surprising to most people in the field of Medicine, especially to those who prematurely thought that antibiotic was a great invention without any risk.
The World Health Organisation has describes antimicrobial resistance as a looming crisis in which common and treatable infections are becoming life threatening. The research examined antibiotic resistance in Europe from both a medical and a political-economic perspective. The research, published in the journal PLOS ONE, found that a country’s level of antibiotic resistance is not related to its wealth.
Co-author Sanjaya Senanayake said countries with higher levels of corruption often had less rigorous and less transparent processes, with less effective controls over areas pertinent to antibiotic resistance. “These include factors that affect antibiotic usage and the ways antibiotic-resistant bacteria spread via water, foods and poor infection control,” he said. “In countries with greater corruption, antibiotic usage may also be much higher than what is recorded. This is not the first time that researchers are talking about antibiotic resistance, its causes, and how it can have a devastating effect on the mankind.
A report by the Office of the Chief Scientist (pdf) states there is “a genuine threat of humanity returning to an era where mortality due to common infections is rife”.
“The outcome of this, the chief scientist warns, is a scenario where illnesses such as strep throat infections or minor cuts could prove fatal.
“Some bacteria are now so resistant that they are virtually untreatable with any of the currently available drugs,” the report says.

On the other hand, Ayurveda confidently claims to have herbs and treatments that cure many so-called incurable diseases without using artificially manufactured antibiotics. Not only that, these herbs including those simple Indian kitchen spices are capable of fighting even super-bugs that today’s antibiotic researchers are scared to think about.
This only shows how Ayurveda, which was gifted to the humankind by Lord Dhanvantari, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, has it all figured out before millions of years.
