In a striking display of reverence and devotion for the spiritual master, the holy land of Sri Mayapur was transformed into a sea of Vaishnava tilak-dharis on 29th March to celebrate the 77th Vyasa-puja of His Holiness Srila Jayapataka Swami Maharaj.

From the very start of the celebration, the atmosphere was surcharged with fervor and devotion. The most profound moment, however, came when Srila Jayapataka Swami, whose health has been a subject of concern for years, took the stage amidst cheers from his approximately 35,000 disciples who were physically present to take his darshan and hear from him. It is noteworthy that Srila Jayapataka Swami has given diksha (initiation) to around 90,000 disciples, and tens of thousands are still waiting.

The astonishing part was that despite his physical frailties, he delivered a powerful and insightful one-hour-long spiritual discourse with perfect clarity and no sign of fatigue. In fact, at one point he mentioned how he had many more things to say, but time was running short. This left no doubt in the minds of the assembly that he was situated on a purely transcendental platform. For the time he was on the stage, it seemed as if bodily discomfort simply could not touch him, his spirit entirely absorbed in the mission of his spiritual master, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and the Sankirtan mission of Lord Chaitanya.

Historic Union of Gaudiya Sannyasis at an ISKCON Guru’s Vyasa-puja: A New Milestone by the Sarasvat Gaudiya Vaishnava Association (SGVA)

In a display of their deep respect and faith in the leadership of Srila Jayapataka Swami, and marking a significant milestone in the growing unity among the Sarasvat Gaudiya family, one of the most significant highlights of the event was that around 55–60 sannyasis from various non-ISKCON Gaudiya Maths traveled to ISKCON Mayapur to honor Srila Jayapataka Swami. They were accompanied by over 100 non-sannyasi representatives from different Gaudiya temples and ashrams. This reflected their deep respect and admiration for Srila Jayapataka Swami, further strengthening the spirit of cooperation and mutual appreciation.

This gathering was more than a courtesy visit. It was a defining recognition of His Holiness Jayapataka Swami’s lifelong dedication. Sannyasis took turns speaking and offered lavish praise for Swami ji’s unwavering commitment to spreading the message of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. They highlighted his resilience, his compassion, and his unique ability to unite different branches of the Gaudiya tree under a common purpose. Their words carried a tone of genuine appreciation and reverence, highlighting his influence beyond institutional boundaries. It is to be noted that the SGVA, which strives to unite the Sarasvata Gaudiya family, is an initiative by none other than Srila Jayapataka Swami, following the order of his Guru, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

SGVA members at Jayapataka Swami Vyasa-pujaThe logistics of the event were as impressive as the spiritual sentiment. A massive pandal accommodated the record-breaking crowds. The entire function was designed with meticulous care for the pilgrims’ comfort. Understanding the heat of the season, organizers provided a steady flow of water and buttermilk, alongside dedicated medical facilities staffed by voluntary professionals to ensure the well-being of the children, the elderly, and all those who attended the celebration.

An added attraction for many was the specially curated gallery showcasing the different phases and achievements of Srila Jayapataka Swami’s life. The exhibit chronicled his journey from a young American seeker to one of the world’s most influential spiritual leaders, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate visitors.

Like every year, toward the end of the program, the “Safari” devotees offered an impressive cultural program that won the hearts of the ecstatic audience. The much-awaited “safari-song,” describing their spiritual tour around the holy places of Sri Navadwip Mandal and enacting various pastimes, has remained a regular attraction, concluding the celebration. Many noticed how Srila Jayapataka Swami was visibly moved by the performance.

As the sun set over the Ganges and the skies changed their color, adorned by countless stars, the 77th Vyasa-puja concluded not just as a celebration of a person so dedicated to his Guru’s instructions, but also as a testament to a life lived entirely for the benefit of others. It was a powerful spiritual gathering that reflected gratitude toward a revered Acharya who continues to inspire countless lives.
