The seven-day Rath Yatra festival, which started on 29th June, concluded on Monday, the 7th of July, with the Ulta Rath yatra. Their Lordships Sri Jagannath, Sri Baladeva and Their sister Srimati Subhadra Devi went back to Their temple as devotees enthusiastically pulled the chariots in many parts of the world, following in the footsteps of Sri Jagannath Puri dham.
It is a historically recorded fact that when the Britishers first observed the Rath Yatra in the 18th century, they were so bewildered that they sent home shocking descriptions of the event which gave rise to the term ‘juggernaut’, meaning “destructive force”. They just could not understand from where, all of a sudden, those hundreds of thousands of people got together without any communication.
