Soaring Indian economy but Modi faces tough road ahead

Agriculture based on modern technology continues to damage India's economy although the propaganda machines operated by those benefiting from GMF are actively misguiding the mass and government officials alike

This is inevitable when economy is based on industrialism. We have been saying this all along. Not that Modi is not doing his best but economy has to be primarily based on agriculture and cow protection. Again, not that Modi is not doing anything about it but the efforts have to be accelerated for everyone’s benefit. Besides, some of the government policies on food production raise questions on the future of India’s agriculture.

Now, approaching his second anniversary as premier, Modi’s reform ambitions are far from realized. On the plus side, India has eclipsed China as the world’s fastest-growing major economy with gross domestic product projected to expand 7.6 percent in… Modi Reforms Face Headwinds Despite Soaring Indian Economy – NDTV

modi1Ignorance is never a valid excuse when it comes to ruling. Agriculture and cow protection go hand in hand. If some people don’t understand the science behind cow based economy and try to present it as mere religious sentiments, political agendas and so on, they need to be put in their place. State leaders need to realize that Cow protection is not all about religious sentiments – it’s equally scientific – Mayapur Voice). If this is not done, gradually the soil will lose its fertility (Read Cows are vital for Sustainable Agriculture – Mayapur Voice) and in absence of natural fertilizers there will increase dependence on ecological nuisance like genetically modified food (GMF), also called GMO (genetically modified organisms) for its wider misuse.

In the past we have seen a tendency to turn towards companies like Monsanto although in a good news, recently a minister has mentioned that India doesn’t mind if this company walks out of the country. Such companies should be shown the door at the first opportunity. Read here how companies like this can destroy India’s agriculture. To quote the said article:

Five things changed with Monsanto’s entry: First, Indian companies were locked into joint-ventures and licensing arrangements, and concentration over the seed sector increased. Second, seed which had been the farmers’ common resource became the “intellectual property” of Monsanto, for which it started collecting royalties, thus raising the costs of seed. Third, open pollinated cotton seeds were displaced by hybrids, including GMO hybrids. A renewable resource became a non-renewable, patented commodity. Fourth, cotton which had earlier been grown as a mixture with food crops now had to be grown as a monoculture, with higher vulnerability to pests, disease, drought and crop failure. Fifth, Monsanto started to subvert India’s regulatory processes and, in fact, started to use public resources to push its non-renewable hybrids and GMOs through so-called public-private partnerships (PPP).

They did not stop there.

In 1995, Monsanto introduced its Bt technology in India through a joint-venture with the Indian company Mahyco. In 1997-98, Monsanto started open field trials of its GMO Bt cotton illegally and announced that it would be selling the seeds commercially the following year.

It was only in August 2012 that the government came under pressure and a panel of experts appointed by the Supreme Court of India recommended a 10-year moratorium on field trials that of all GM food. It also terminated all ongoing trials of transgenic crops.

Of course, by then the damage was done, and it continues to damage India’s economy although the propaganda machines operated by those benefiting from GMF are actively misguiding the mass and government officials alike (Suggested Read High rising National pride but Narendra Modi needs to hold his horses – Mayapur Voice).

Monsanto’s seed monopolies, the destruction of alternatives, the collection of superprofits in the form of royalties, and the increasing vulnerability of monocultures has created a context for debt, suicides and agrarian distress which is driving the farmers’ suicide epidemic in India. This systemic control has been intensified with Bt cotton. That is why most suicides are in the cotton belt. (Source The Seeds Of Suicide: How Monsanto Destroys Farming)

There is absolutely no point in blaming rains and rivers for poor agriculture. Our planet Earth is made naturally rich for producing highly nourishing food grains. India’s wisdom stored in the pages of Vedas is filled with instructions on how to take advantage of natural resources for a meaningful life. Instead, India is looking at modern technologies to prosper! And this is when the western countries are turning towards India’s wisdom.

Indian leaders and country’s top industrialists need to go an extra mile to realize how there is no need to buy foreign thoughts for India’s success especially in the field of agriculture. Industrialism has ruined America, it is ruining Europe and is set to ruin Asia. The world economy is on the verge of collapse. We must acknowledge that India’s economy is far from collapsing not due to anything else but due to its millenniums long foundation in agriculture and cow protection. In absence of this wisdom, the word “economy”, be it India’s economy or world economy, will keep fluctuating and leave the so-called experts perpetually baffled.
