While we welcome government’s cracking down on improperly registered NGOs and their activities, it is important to note that not every NGO operating in India is necessarily harmful to India’s growth as it has been advocated by different agencies these days.
Although the BJP government is working in national interest, there is simultaneously a need to also keep a check on the different activities carried out by the government, and if an NGO, or any other body for that matter, tries to oppose or expose a wrong move, it should be welcomed. For example, food processing like GMF (Genetically modified food) is, beyond doubt, objectionable as it is sure to cost dearly to India and Indian citizens in the future, at least in terms of health, as it has done to other nations. Now, if some interest groups promote GMF and conceal the information on its harmful effects, and if an NGO works on exposing such information, it should be welcomed. We need to ensure that we don’t throw the baby with the bath water.
